Single-crystal ruby rod manufactured for use as the lasing medium in solid-state ruby laser systems. Grown under laboratory conditions to optical-grade purity, with precisely controlled chromium content that produces the vivid pink-to-magenta coloration. These rods are the classic 694.3 nm ruby laser material once widely used in medical Q-switched units, including early tattoo-removal and dermatology systems.

The round, polished body is the unworked pre-coating stage of a laser rod. Ends are left uncoated and unfinished, making them suitable for cutting into faceting rough, optical experimentation, or collection as industrial synthetic corundum.
