Iolite - Tanzania

Parcel of inky blue/grey Iolite from Babati, Tanzania.  

Iolite exhibits pleochroism, which means it absorbs varying wavelengths of light based on the angle of incoming rays or their polarization plane. As a result, the gemstone showcases different hues depending on the viewing angle. When rotated, this Iolite reveals a spectrum of colors spanning from deep oceanic blue to a cool grey.  They cut mesmerizing gemstones.
