Collection: Gadolinium Gallium Garnet (GGG)

*Faceted gemstones in video cut from our stock of clear and teal GGG

Gadolinium Gallium Garnet (GGG).  GGG is of the class of synthetic gems deemed "Historic Diamond Simulants."

Originally developed for scientific applications it was used as a diamond simulant in the 1970s but was quickly replaced by YAG for its higher hardness.  GGG is not to be overlooked though because it has a much closer appearance to natural diamond than YAG does.  GGG is also a considerably more rare diamond simulant that is typically only offered in white.  We are thrilled to be able to offer the classic white color and an  exceptional teal colored stone.

GGG crystals are produced by the Czochralski method.  It has an RI of 1.97 - 2.02, a DI of 38, and a Mohs hardness of 6.5 - 7.5.  It cuts and polishes extremely well.

GGG is an interesting and rare piece of history for the collector and jeweler that joehenleyrough.com is elated to supply.  They absolutely sparkle!

*Cutting/polishing advice from an expert:

Prepolishes easily with a 3,000 grit and polishes superbly with 100,000 grit.
