Single-crystal ruby rods manufactured as the active gain medium for solid-state ruby lasers. These are chromium-doped corundum (Al₂O₃) grown to a much higher optical purity than standard synthetic ruby used for jewelry
These rods were designed for medical Q-switched systems used in early tattoo-removal and dermatology units, before Nd:YAG became the industry standard. They are supplied in their unfinished state: ends are flat and uncoated, exactly as they leave production before mirror coatings and optical polishing are applied.
These rods can be sliced into faceting rough, used for optical experiments, or kept as collectible industrial synthetic material.
Approximately 10 x 10 mm at the clear round ends and 5 x 10 mm through the corrugated pink centers. They are approximately 17.5 cm long
Price of $48 is for a single rod
