Natural Chalcedony from Namibia, an uncommon old-stock material first mined several decades ago and seldom seen on the market today. Its color is a vivid cornflower-to-periwinkle blue that remains completely natural and stable, without the gray or lavender tones often found in similar chalcedonies from Turkey, California, or Indonesia. The saturation is exceptional and consistent throughout the piece.
This variety is believed to owe its distinctive color to trace copper within the microcrystalline quartz lattice, similar to the mechanism that gives chrysocolla-colored chalcedony its blue tone, but without the opacity or veining. Originally purchased by German and Dutch dealers in the 1970sā80s, parcels occasionally resurface from old collections, such as is the case with the material we are offering
8.282 g / 41.41 carats / 24.5 x 19.7 x 14.5 mm
