Unheated Tanzanite shows its natural range of colors—typically a mix of violet, blue, and burgundy tones. These untreated stones are less common and retain the original appearance as found in the ground, without heat enhancement.
Tanzanite is a variety of zoisite found only in the Merelani Hills of northern Tanzania. While most stones are routinely heated to achieve a more uniform blue-purple color, unheated material offers a broader spectrum and may show pleochroic color shifts depending on angle and lighting
We pull these out of large parcels that are headed into the kiln because we just love the natural colors!
