Rare mineral and even rarer gemstone. Haüyne falls into the legendary collector rough category.
Sourced from the Eifel Region of Germany, this electric blue feldspathoid belongs to the sodalite group. It has a Moh's hardness of 5.5 – 6 and a Refractive Index of 1.498 – 1.507 and intense UV reactivity.
Haüyne of this region in Germany was formed amongst alkaline volcanic rocks in a magma chamber 2 - 4 kilometers deep in the Eifel Mountains. The magma erupted approximately 12,900 years ago and Haüyne is now found throughout the resulting deposits. There are no other deposits of gem quality Haüyne in the world.
