Amethyst - Rwanda
Old-stock material we finally sent off to have trimmed clean. Very difficult to find any Rwandan material these days
Rwandan Amethyst first appeared on the market about 8 years ago and quickly became wildly popular due to the swirling pink and blue secondary colors that good material has
Then, almost a quickly as it appeared, it largly disappeared from the market. Lots of rumors abound about what happened - I can say from first hand experience that it was not because the deposit dried up but rather the Rwandan government became involved in the mining. Perhaps I'll write a blog and share some amazing photos and video I have of the mining and government stock pile I've seen of this material- lots of information to share.
