Petrified Palm Wood – Bagan, Burma

Petrified Palm Wood – Bagan, Burma

Slice of petrified palm wood from the Bagan region of Burma. The material displays the distinct dotted pattern of preserved vascular bundles, a hallmark of fossilized palm. Over time, the organic material was replaced by silica, creating a stone that retains the cellular structure of the original plant. These slices show a natural variation of black, grey, and tan tones, ideal for study or lapidary use.

Bagan, once the heart of the Pagan Kingdom (9th–13th centuries), is one of Southeast Asia’s most significant archaeological zones. With thousands of temples still standing, the region holds deep cultural and geological value—reflected in every ancient piece uncovered from its ground
