Ruby in zoisite combines the striking combination of red ruby, green zoisite, and black hornblende. Found exclusively in the Longido mining area of northern Tanzania, this material is highly sought after for its unique patterns and bold color contrast.
The red portion is ruby, composed of aluminum oxide with chromium impurities that give it its vibrant hue, while the green area is zoisite, a calcium aluminum silicate with chromium and vanadium. The black areas are hornblende, adding a distinctive contrast. With a hardness of 9 on the Mohs scale for the ruby and 6.5–7 for the zoisite, care is needed when shaping or cutting this material.
